Princess Diana’s engagement ring

Why did Princess Diana choose a blue sapphire engagement ring? Her ring is radically different from the classic engagement rings accepted in the royal family. The fact is that Prince Charles did not order a unique piece of jewellery from a royal jeweller, and the bride herself chose her sapphire ring from a catalogue. This act was unheard of in royal circles. Most brides had their rings commissioned by a jeweller, or were offered a ring that once belonged to someone and was passed down through inheritance. It is believed that Diana chose her ring from the Garrards catalogue purely because it was the largest. She was 19 years old, and the huge 12 carat sapphire in Royal Blue, surrounded by 14 diamonds, seemed very attractive to her. Especially since Diana was very fond of the blue colour, which was reflected even in her make-up.
